Christ United Church of Cypress

History of Christ United Church

Christ United Church of Cypress began as a mission Church officially on July 28, 1928 as a Evangelical congregation with a rich German heritage. Practically all original members were farmers, truck farmers, or dairymen. The Rev. Schwengal, Christ Church’s first pastor, shared duties with our Church and another congregation in Spring. The original wood frame Church was donated to the Star of Hope mission in Hockley. Our current sanctuary was dedicated on January 24, 1965. In June of 1965, our congregation adopted the name “Christ United Church”. We began a new page of our history as we became part of the United Church of Christ denomination. Our Church has grown from a small mission Church nestled in the farm lands of Cypress to what is now a booming suburban community. The community has changed but the mission of our Church to serve the community remains vital as it did over 80 years ago. A church large enough to serve, small enough to care, at the crossroads of Huffmeister and Telge Road.
